Coming down from Montemarcello towards Bocca di Magra, another attractive village with roman origins and a small, well-equipped port, you come across a fork leading to Punta Bianca at the southernmost tip of the promontory: it's a rocky point of light limestone that dives into a deep, clean sea surrounded by pine trees and mediterranean scrub. Just before the little path that goes down, not too steeply, to the rocks at Punta Bianca (15 minutes walk), lies this complex of apartments designed by the famous architect Gio' Ponti and built in the 70s. Each apartment in the complex, leaning against the hill, has independent entrance, a splendid view of the sea, a parking space in the garage and can use the condominium swimming-pool.
The apartment is reached via some flights of steps, leading through the various blocks of buildings, immersed in the Mediterranean scrub. It's snug and comfortable, with the colours of the sea and decorated with colourful tiles; all of the rooms, apart from a kitchen and the bathrooms, have windows onto the large furnished terrace, divided into two parts that are linked to each other overlooking the open sea, the Apuan Alps and the tuscan coast. From Puntabianca you can easily get to all of the essential sights in Liguria, such as Lerici, Portovenere and Le Cinque Terre, considered a paradise for hikers (although all of the area here is part of the nature park Parco Naturale di Montemarcello-Magra, with several walker's paths), and the famous beaches in Versilia. From the little harbour at Bocca di Magra there are small ferries that can take you to the hidden bays in the area, as well as to Punta Corvo, Lerici, Portovenere and Le Cinque Terre.
